Plant With Purpose is a Christian humanitarian organization dedicated to helping the rural poor. Our three-part, environmental, economic, and spiritual approach to sustainable development transforms the communities and people we work with in the following ways.

1. Improved Quality of Life

As a result of our work, children and adults enjoy improved health, children attain higher levels of education and women experience greater equality and economic security.

2. Restored Relationships

Plant With Purpose initiatives help strengthen family relationships, the relationship between people and their environment, and the relationship between people and God.

3. Self Sufficiency

Our synergistic model of environmental and economic development teaches people to farm in ways that also protect the land, ensuring their long-term prosperity. As a result, these communities continue to thrive long after our work there ends.

What’s Our Purpose

“It’s a question we all ask ourselves when we see people suffering. As human beings, we want to help—but how?

For us, the breakthrough came when we saw first-hand the connection between poverty and the environment. Many people think of poverty and the environment as separate issues, but in fact they are hugely interdependent. Most of the world’s poor are rural poor. Many are subsistence farmers, completely dependent on their environment for survival. But as a result of widespread deforestation, the land isn’t providing like it used to.

Land that once bore bountiful crops that could be sold or eaten, isn’t producing. Streams that used to provide water to drink, now run dry. Out of desperation, the poor cut down more trees to sell as firewood, even though doing so means further destroying their one chance of survival.

By reversing deforestation, Plant With Purpose helps the poor restore productivity to their land to create economic opportunity out of environmental restoration. Since 1984 we have helped more than 100,000 people in some 230 villages lift themselves out of poverty through our holistic approach to sustainable development.

We invite you to join us, and Plant With Purpose.”

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies is the world’s largest humanitarian organization, providing assistance without discrimination as to nationality, race, religious beliefs, class or political opinions.…

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies is the world’s largest humanitarian organization, providing assistance without discrimination as to nationality, race, religious beliefs, class or political opinions.

Founded in 1919, the International Federation comprises 186 member Red Cross and Red Crescent societies, a Secretariat in Geneva and more than 60 delegations strategically located to support activities around the world. There are more societies in formation. The Red Crescent is used in place of the Red Cross in many Islamic countries.

The Federation’s vision: We strive, through voluntary action, for a world of empowered communities, better able to address human suffering and crises with hope, respect for dignity and a concern for equity.

Our mission is to improve the lives of vulnerable people by mobilizing the power of humanity. Vulnerable people are those who are at greatest risk from situations that threaten their survival, or their capacity to live with an acceptable level of social and economic security and human dignity. Often, these are victims of natural disasters, poverty brought about by socio-economic crises, refugees, and victims of health emergencies.

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is an impartial, neutral and independent organization whose exclusively humanitarian mission is to protect the lives and dignity of victims of armed conflict and other situations of violence and to provide them with assistance.

The ICRC also endeavours to prevent suffering by promoting and strengthening humanitarian law and universal humanitarian principles.

Established in 1863, the ICRC is at the origin of the Geneva Conventions and the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. It directs and coordinates the international activities conducted by the Movement in armed conflicts and other situations of violence.

Mandate

A permanent mandate founded in international law, a worldwide mission to help victims of conflicts and internal violence, whoever they are. The ICRC’s mandate in the Geneva Conventions and in the Statutes of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement; articles on the mission, status and objectives of the ICRC.

The ICRC has a legal mandate from the international community. That mandate has two sources:

* the 1949 Geneva Conventions, which task the ICRC with visiting prisoners, organizing relief operations, re-uniting separated families and similar humanitarian activities during armed conflicts;

* the Statutes of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement (Movement), which encourage it to undertake similar work in situations of internal violence, where the Geneva Conventions do not apply.

The Geneva Conventions are binding instruments of international law, applicable worldwide. The Statutes of the Movement are adopted at the International Conference of the Red Cross and Red Crescent, which takes place every four years, and at which States that are party to the Geneva Conventions take part, thereby conferring a quasi-legal or “soft law” status on the Statutes.

Since 1970, Samaritan’s Purse has helped meet the needs of people who are victims of war, poverty, natural disasters, disease, and famine with the purpose of sharing God’s love through His Son, Jesus Christ.

The organization serves the Church worldwide to promote the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

For over 35 years, Samaritan’s Purse has done our utmost to follow Christ’s command by going to the aid of the world’s poor, sick, and suffering.

Our emergency relief programs provide desperately needed assistance to victims of natural disaster, war, disease, and famine. As we offer food, water, and temporary shelter, we meet critical needs and give people a chance to rebuild their lives.

Through community development and vocational programs in impoverished villages and communities, we are helping people break the cycle of poverty and give them hope for a better tomorrow.

Vulnerable children are helped through education, shelter, and long-term care projects, and are given gifts that bring great joy through our Operation Christmas Child shoe box program.

Through our medical projects, we provide quality health care in the name of the Great Physician. We also send medical and dental personnel to help in countries around the world. In addition, Samaritan’s Purse Teams give people the opportunity to serve alongside Samaritan’s Purse in a Mission, Relief or Youth Team.

Through this work, we are able to share our faith in Jesus Christ, and the Good News of eternal life.
