CFCA is a sponsorship model organization helping families in developing countries put food on the table and send their children to school. It was established in 1981. It now works in 25 countries around the world and has over 300,000 people in the sponsorship program. CFCA believes in the potential of the poor to effect change in their own lives and in our world. We don’t see poverty. We see potential. We help families in developing countries put food on the table, send their children to school, access health care and have a decent place to live so that together, we can end the cycle of poverty.

How we work

We bring people together through a sponsorship model in which one sponsor partners with one child or aging friend in a developing country, offering support and encouragement. This relationship impacts not only the child or aging friend but the sponsor as well. CFCA is unique in that it offers not only the opportunity to sponsor children but also elderly people. Sponsors have the opportunity to visit their sponsored friend, and they can get to know their friend by exchanging letters.

Financially Responsible

CFCA stewardship has consistently garnered the highest ratings from independent oversight organizations, including the American Institute of Philanthropy and Charity Navigator. CFCA meets all 20 of the Better Business Bureau Wise Giving Alliance’s rigorous Standards for Charity Accountability. In 2007 total program support represented 94.7 percent of CFCA’s expenses.

The World Food Programme is the United Nations’ food assistance branch, working to fight hunger around the world.

The World Food Programme is the United Nations’ food assistance branch, working to fight hunger around the world.

It was formed in 1962 to help those in desperate need of food because of disaster and poverty.

As the food assistance arm of the UN, WFP uses its food to:

* meet emergency needs

* support economic & social development

The Agency also provides the logistics support necessary to get food to the right people at the right time and in the right place.

WFP works to put hunger at the centre of the international agenda, promoting policies, strategies and operations that directly benefit the poor and hungry.

Who do we help?

* Victims of natural disasters like the 2006 East Africa drought, the Pakistan earthquake and Hurricane Stan in 2005, the tsunami disaster and Bangladesh floods in 2004, the Iran earthquake in 2003 or Hurricane Mitch, which affected one million people in Honduras, Nicaragua, El Salvador and Guatamala in October 1998.
* Displaced People — both refugees and internally displaced persons to leave towns and villages in places like Darfur, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Colombia.
* The world’s hungry poor, trapped in a twilight zone between poverty and malnutrition.
* WFP also believes that women are the first solution to hunger and poverty. Women not only cook food. They sow, reap and harvest it. Yet, in many developing countries, they eat last and least.

Where?

* WFP is the world’s largest international food assistance organisation combating hunger in underdeveloped nations with severe food shortages. The frontline stretches from sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East to Latin America and Asia & the Pacific.

How do we fight hunger?

* Rescue: WFP stands on a permanent state of alert, ready to mobilise food assistance for delivery to natural and man-made disaster areas.
* Rapid Reaction: WFP’s rapid response team draws-up contingency plans designed to move food and humanitarian assistance fast into disaster areas.

WFP works closely with the other members of the UN family, governments and NGOs, offering its logistics expertise to guarantee the delivery of all kinds of humanitarian assistance.

* Rehabilitation: WFP food also serves as a means to get disaster-affected regions back on their feet.
* Deterrence: Malnutrition gnaws away at the most valuable asset in any country’s development: its children and its workers. Food assistance is one of the most effective deterrents against long-term poverty.

WFP kick-starts development by paying workers with rations to build vital infrastructure and offering children nutritious lunches as a reward for going to school.

Mission Statement

God calls us to:

* Train individuals in holistic ministry that equips them to work with communities in developing sustainable farming techniques
* Educate those with an economic abundance on methods of conserving and sharing resources
* Participate in local and international sustainable development programs

Our philosophy …

is to live simply, helping those who struggle to meet their basic needs by sharing and investing in others what God has given to us

History

World Hunger Relief, Inc., was chartered in 1976 by real estate developers Bob and Jan Salley. The Texas, non-profit charter provided for a program in agroforestry and related technologies to address the needs of the hungry, both foreign and domestic.

In 1979 Carl Ryther and his family returned to Texas after 17 years of agricultural missions in Bangladesh (formerly East Pakistan). The Salley’s invited Ryther to join World Hunger Relief in 1979 to develop a program to train individuals to address hunger needs around the world. In the following 25 years, WHRI trained over 300 interns working in 20 countries spanning 4 continents. These interns now work for various international organizations promoting sustainable food production and economic development.

Inspired by our Christian values, we are dedicated to working with the world’s most vulnerable people.

We serve all people regardless of religion, race, ethnicity or gender.

Our Mission

World Vision is an international partnership of Christians whose mission is to follow our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ in working with the poor and oppressed to promote human transformation, seek justice and bear witness to the good news of the Kingdom of God.

Transforming Communities

Because poverty has both local and global causes, World Vision works within communities and across geographical areas to help individuals and groups improve the well-being of children and overcome poverty.

Responding to Disasters

When disasters strike, World Vision is globally positioned to help with immediate needs like food, water and shelter. World Vision also works with communities to recover from disasters and prevent future catastrophes.

Seeking Global Change

World Vision engages institutions, donors and the general public to address the global problems that perpetuate poverty. Advocacy staff empower communities to speak up for their rights, both locally and globally.

Child Sponsorship

Child sponsorship is one of the primary ministries of World Vision. For a little over a dollar a day ($35 dollars a month) you can “sponsor” a child and provide that child with the resources he or she needs to live a healthy life.
Your $35 a month provides:
• Education
• Skills Training
• Nutritious Food
• Agricultural Assistance
• Health Care
• Safe Water

Child sponsorship is an exciting journey of transformation—for the child you’re helping and for you—especially if you use all the tools available to help you bond with your sponsored child.

One to two weeks after you sponsor a child, you’ll receive a welcome package that includes your sponsored child’s photo and personal information, as well as facts about his or her community and country. You’ll also receive a magnet frame so you can display your child’s photo on your refrigerator.

World Vision will keep you apprised of your sponsored child’s progress with annual progress reports. Four times a year, World Vision will send you greeting cards that you can sign and return for your sponsored child. Of course, your sponsored child will be thrilled to receive letters or photos from you anytime.
